Imphal, June 07, 2013:
Reacting to the assertion of CPI State secretary Dr M Nara that he would garland any Congress MLA if he or she was elected without resorting to unfair means, MLA RK Anand remarked that the CPI leader's statement exposed irresponsibility, lack of culture and immaturity.
This practice of hurling wild allegations against elected Members by defeated and falling politicians shout be cast away in the interest of the people and politicians as a whole.
Speaking to media persons today, MLA RK Anand stated that elections were held under the rule and guidelines framed by the Election Commission of India.
It was under these guidelines that the incumbent 42 Congress MLAs fought and won the last Assembly elections.
All the 42 Congress MLAs were elected lawfully.
It is unbecoming for a senior politician who had also held ministerial portfolios to hurl wild allegations against elected Members just because he was vanquished in the election.
Such allegation would never find any serious audience, Anand asserted.
It is everybody's knowledge what CPI did when it was in power.
It would be wiser on the part of the senior CPI leaders not to make such defamatory statements in future.
Replying to a query, Anand shared apprehension about the indigenous people becoming minorities because of incessant influx from beyond the boundary of Manipur.
Recalling that the State Cabinet as well as the State Assembly have adopted resolutions in favour of implementing ILPS in Manipur, Anand confided that there seems to be certain misunderstandings between the Government and Government of Manipur on the issue.
But the present campaign of prohibiting Indian citizens from entering Manipur has the potential of being misinterpreted.
Manipuri people and students staying outside the State may face a tricky and risky situation if the present campaign continues and is misinterpreted.
The issue demands far-sightedness and tactfulness, Anand added.
Earlier in the day, RK Anand inspected water supply schemes including ones which would be commissioned anew within Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly segment.
The MLA and his team comprising of PHED officials visited Chingtham Leikai water supply scheme, Malom water supply scheme and Lairenjam water supply scheme.
Apart from inspecting the water supply plant being constructed at Langthabal Phuramakhong at the cost of around of Rs 7 crores under NLCPR, the team also made a survey of the spot at Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai where another water supply plant would be constructed under Accelerated Rural Water Supply Scheme.
The MLA observed that some localities did not get tap water due to leakage of pipes and unauthorised connections.
He appealed to the local clubs and women activists to check unauthorised connections and ensure that all public hydrants are utilised properly.
Anand stated that the water supply plant being constructed at Langthabal Phuramakhong would be commissioned in the next two months.
