State Handloom Expo concludes

The State Handloom Expo (Hathkargha Mela) organised by Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDCL) concluded today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound.
Imphal.
The expo was conducted under the sponsorship of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textile, Government of India.
The closing ceremony was attended by E Jeeten, Managing Director, MHHDCL; Priyadarshi Daripa, Deputy Director, Weavers' Service Centre Porompat; Th Basanta, General Manager, MHHDCL; National Awardee (Handloom), K Medha and State Awardee (Handicrafts), RK Sardha as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Priyadarshi Daripa expressed joy over the successful conduct of the 14-days long State Handloom Expo which provided an opportunity to sell local handloom & handicraft products.
He shared that Melas have been conducted under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles from time-to-time to support local weavers & artisans and provide a marketing platform.
Priyadarshi Daripa also appealed to the weavers & artisans who wish to participate in the Melas scheduled to be held in Manipur and other States as per the 'Mela Calendar' released by the Ministry of Textiles, to contact MHHDCL or Weavers' Service Centre Porompat.
E Jeeten asserted that despite the increasing demand for Manipuri handloom and handicraft products outside the State, weavers & artisans are still facing difficulties to sell their products.
He advised the weavers and artisans to not focus only on profit and maintain quality of the products to ensure a steady demand & market for these products.
