Hearing deferred

Final hearing of a petition filed by ten candidates who submitted candidature forms for the aborted State PMT 2013 at Manipur High Court has been deferred to August 8 although the final hearing was scheduled today.
Nonetheless, the Court directed both the petitioners as well as the respondents to submit their written arguments tomorrow.
Earlier, the State Cabinet decided to select MBBS/BDS students from amongst the students declared qualified in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) after all preparations were made for the State PMT.
Challenging the Cabinet decision not to hold State PMT, the ten candidates filed a petition at the High Court.
Awaiting the Court's verdict, academic session for this year medical course has been commenced till date at JNIMS.
Incidentally, Manipur enjoys maximum quota of MBBS seats at JNIMS.
The State also get 30 MBBS seats at RIMS.
Although the State's quota of MBBS seats still remain vacant, MBBS course has already begun at RIMS.
Meanwhile, information received from the Health Directorate said that whether NEET results would be upheld for selection of MBBS students or the State PMT would be held anew would be decided based on the verdict of Manipur High Court.
