Bandh against deplorable road total

Apart from a complete halt in passenger vehicle service along the stretch from Yairipokto Sikhong, most business establishments remained shut in many areas of the 14 villages affected by the deplorable condition of the said road, as part of the cease-work campaign launched by Sikhong Sekmai Road Upgrade Committee (SSRUC) against the Government's failure to repair the stretch.
The Committee, which is an apex body of various organizations and associations of the 14 affected villages including Nongpok Sekmai, Ukhongshang, Ingourok, Lourempham, Pichi, Sikhong Khunou and Aripat, also organized a sit-in-protest cum public meeting at Sikhong Bazar.

Speaking to media persons, Nongpok Ningthou Tata Magic Maximo Association's general secretary Ningthoukhongjam Asatomba Singh claimed that PWD Minister Thongam Biswajit had assured to repair the road stretch at the earliest when the representatives of SSRUC met him on January 4.He further stated that despite the assurance, the Minister has not taken up any action till date although the deadline set by the SSRUC (within 15 days from the day the meeting was held) was extended.
Asserting that the dilapidated road condition cause great inconveniences to the locals of the villagers residing along the said stretch, the general secretary warned that intense form of agitation will be launched soon if the Government keeps ignoring their demand.
