Progressive farmers awarded

The State Agriculture Directorate distributed prizes for the rice crop competition 2013-14 in a function held at Directorate's Sanjenthong premises today.
Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir, Agriculture Commissioner Rajesh Agrawal and Agriculture Director S Gunija attended the function as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Abdul Nasir said that the State could win Centre's Krishi Karman award because of the hard work of the State farmers this year.
He called on the farmers and staff of Agriculture Department to put in collective effort to win the award in the next year as well.
In his speech, Rajesh Agrawal stressed on the need to enhance production.
In this year's rice crop competition, Nongthombam Brojendro of Awang Potshangbam Khunou, who produced 10,773.42 kg of paddy per hectare, got the first prize.
He was awarded with a complete set of power tiller.
The second prize went to Thokchom Romeo of Kakching Ningthou Leikai, who produced 10,721.86 kg of paddy per hectare.
He was gifted a Kamco power reaper.
In the same competition, Ashem Priyokumar of Sandangkhong got third prize.
He was awarded with a 8 HP Kirlosker water pump set for producing 10,573.86 kg of paddy per hactare.
