Final data of Census 2011 released

The State witnessed considerable fall in child sex ratio (0-6 years) from 957 to 936 during 2001-2011 .
According to the final population data of Census 2011 released today, the fall has been to the tune of 25 points (956 to 931) in rural areas and in urban areas the decline has been to an extent of 12 points (961 to 949) in the last decade.
The final population of data of Census 2011 was released by Census Operations, Manipur Director Y Thamkishore at his Porompat office.
According to the said data, Tamenglong and Chandel districts (911 each) have recorded the lowest child sex ratio in rural areas whereas Churachandpur district (948) recorded the highest child sex ratio in rural areas.
Bishnupur district (929) and Chandel district (985) have recorded the lowest and highest child sex ratio respectively in urban areas.
As per Census 2011, the total population of Manipur at 0.00 hours of March 1, 2011 is 2,570,390 .
The growth rate of population in the last decade is 18.6 percent (rural 9.1 percent and urban 44.8 percent) .
Chandel has recorded the highest decadal growth rate in rural population (23.2 percent) and Imphal East (69.2 percent) the highest decadal growth rate in urban population.
The sex ratio in the State which was 978 in 2001 has increased by 14 points to 992 in 2011.Imphal West (1031) has recorded the highest sex ratio in urban areas while Chandel (932) has recorded the lowest sex ratio.
The last decade witnessed an increase of 0.9 percent in Scheduled Tribe population.
The total ST population is pegged at 902740.Of this 791126 live in rural areas while 111614 is the urban population.
The female literacy rate has increased significantly by 11.9 percentage points in the last decade.
On the other hand, male literacy rate increased by 5.8 percentage points.
According to the Census 2011, the effective literacy rate of Manipur is 79.2 percent which is 8.7 percentage points higher than Census 1991 .
The total male literacy rate is 86.1 percent while the female literacy rate settled at 72.4 percent.
Speaking to reporters, Y Thamkishore said that the data sets contain population, child population in the age-group of 0-6 years, Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe population, literacy and work status etc.
He added that the data sets relating to Work status present data based on duration of work (main and marginal) as well as the broad category of work (cultivators, agricultural labourers, household industry workers and other workers).
The gender composition and residence status of each set of data have also been presented at district level, he said and added that the data at Sub-district level, town (ward), village level would be released subsequently in electronic version.
The datas have been finalised after making vigorous validation checks, he added.
