Imphal, December 04 2015 :
United Meetei and Pangal Organisations (UMAPO) has demanded the Government to look into the poor state of Government schools.
UMAPO is currently carrying out inspection drives at various Government schools, the organisation said in a statement.
It has been found that most of the teachers do not take classes properly in these schools.
While many schools do not properly maintain attendance registers many do not provide mid-day meal to the students, the organisation added.
Lackadaisical attitude on the part of the Government and teachers has become the sole reason for degradation of these schools.
The organisation further said that it is unfortunate that the ZEOs, DIs, AIs and headmasters are all sitting idle and waiting for monthly salaries instead of putting in dedicated effort to uplift the condition of Government schools.
As many teachers are found incompetent to take class, it is apprehensive that fake appointments are still rampant in the State, UMAPO said.
On the otherhand, the infrastructure of Lilong Haoreibi College is so deplorable that it literally looks like an institute of the stone age, the organisation said.
It further cautioned that UMAPO would send the video recording of the college to the Centre if Chief Minister O Ibobi and Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir direct the authority concerned to develop the college with the funds from UGC.
