Villagers of Kanankhu village, Chandel district headquarters under the supervision of the newly elected Chandel ADC Member Ts Willingson Anal, today provided relief assistance to the flood affected areas of Chakpikarong, our correspondent reports.
The newly elected ADC member along with the villagers of Kanankhu also extended a helping hand in rehabilitating flood victims of the district today.
Using spades and shovels, the villagers engaged in cleaning the knee deep thick layers of mud and silt from residential houses, roads, CHC and school with the help of other villagers from the surrounding villages.
Briefing media persons, the ADC member said Chakpikarong sub-divisional headquarters is among the severely affected areas by the recent overflow of Chakpi river.
Apart from washing away several houses and the bridge, the flood deposited thick layers of silt, timbers and logs all over Chakpikarong, he added.
Kanankhu villagers have also donated cash and other relief materials to the affected people, he added.
In the meantime, the Serou - Salluk road in Chakpikarong sub-division has been repaired by cutting new route employing four JCB excavators which were provided by HL Lovingson Anal, ST Rocko, Khupmang Haokip and NL Ngamshel.
The road was completely cut off after a landslide hit the section of the road due to incessant rains.
The fuel for the JCB excavators were provided by St Nunghlung Victor, MLA 41-Chandel A/C and Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, DC Chandel.
Meanwhile, Mantak villagers and various other civil organisations under Chandel district donated monetary aid and other relief materials to flood hit villages of Kakching and Keirak under the supervision of village chief and Church Pastor, a statement informed.
A team of volunteers delivered relief materials donated by villagers and other associations in Mantak to 15 different relief camps set up at Kakching and Keirak for distribution to flood victims.
