Indian Organ Donation Day observed

Joining the rest of the country, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) celebrated the 14th Indian Organ Donation Day by organising an awareness programme at the Shija Auditorium today.
It was graced by Dr Nongthombam Saratchandra Singh, former Head of Anatomy Department, Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS); Monica Laishram, Program Manager, MOHAN Foundation; Dr Palin Khundongbam, CMD, SHRI and Joychandra M, president, BODAM, said a release.
Over 100 people attended the event, including students and faculty from Shija Academy, as well as nurses and support staff from Shija Hospitals and members of the Body Organ Donors Association, Manipur (BODAM) .
At the event, experts spoke on the need to raise awareness about organ donation.
Through preventative measures, they discussed educating the public about brain stem death, encouraging deceased organ donation, combating unethical organ transplantation, addressing misconceptions about organ donation, opening tissue banks, and encouraging hospitals to identify and report cases of brain stem death.
The programme aimed to promote organ donation and bridge the gap between those needing transplants and available donors.
Notably, a total of 114 kidney transplants were performed at Shija Hospitals as of June 2024, including 2 kidney transplants from Myanmar and 7 from Nagaland.
It was the first hospital in Northeastern India to perform an ABO-incompatible transplant and conducted the first deceased kidney transplant in the region on August 2, 2023 .
With a full-time Nephrologist and Urologists, SHRI provides high-quality, patient-centric care and performs the highest number of hemodialysis in the entire Northeast region, with 120 dialysis sessions per day in its 42-bed dialysis unit.
Shija Hospitals has conducted 94,180 CMHT and 72,560 PMJAY dialysis sessions, demonstrating its dedication to patient care.
CRPF
86 Battalion CRPF in collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, Lamphelpst celebrated Indian Organ Donation Day at Lamphelpat today.
The event was organised under the supervision of Saurabh Kumar Choudhary, Commandant of 86 Bn CRPF.
It was attended by officers and personnel of 86 Battalion along with staff and students of Kendriya Vidyalaya.
At the event, Kiyam Rajiv Singh, Deputy Commandant, 86 Bn CRPF, apprised the participants about the importance of organ donations and encouraged them to consistently keep themselves physically, mentally fit and healthy.
Highlighting the theme "Don't Leave Your Loved Ones in Doubt', the Deputy Commandant emphasized the need to encourage people to speak to their loved ones about organ donation and to let them know what their wish is after they pass away.
He also affirmed that CRPF will continue to render such good services for growth, development and prosperity of its personnel, their families and society as well.
