Struggle for our self determination, says CAO Ukhrul reflects on FA anniversary

Ukhrul, August 03 2020: CAO of Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) C Kasar today said that Nagas were free people and were never under any political domination.

The NSCN (IM) leader said this at the 5th anniversary of the Framework Agreement which was signed on 3rd August 3, 2015 between the Government of India and the (NSCN-IM).

Addressing the occasion at TNL hall, Ukhrul the CAO talked on the Naga National movement which he said is a peoples' movement for self determination and added that the struggle will continue until the goals are achieved.

Urging the people to raise their voice for self determination, the CAO added that the time has come for every individual to shoulder responsibilities for the Naga National movement .

C Kasar said that the Naga National flag was hoisted at the headquarters of Unrepresentative Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) in 1983 and is flying high till today.

The CAO also pointed out that division within the Naga community is a big setback in the National struggle and added that Nagas must unite and work together to achieve their political endeavours.

The history of Naga Nationalism and the ideology on which it was founded and championed was also spelt out to the people.

According to Kasar, unlike other princely States of India, Naga was never a part in the formation of Indian Union after British left and recalled that the Nagas submitted a memorandum to the Simon Commission in 1929 to leave them alone and to let them determine their future.

Thereafter Nagas declared independence on 14th August 1947, one day ahead of India, but the Government of India has failed to accept the rights of the Nagas.

Following this the Naga Federation army was organized to defend and safeguard the inherent rights of the people, he recalled and added that the Government of India after understanding the Naga problem as a political issue signed the cease fire agreement in 1997 and subsequently uniqueness of Naga history was also recognized by the Indian Government.

Later in 2015 on August 3, the Government of India and NSCN (IM) signed the Framework Agreement in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Home Minister to end the Naga political issue at Delhi based on the historical and political rights of the Nagas, he added.

Both the parties mutually agreed to respect each other's position.

He went on to mention that some of the competencies of FA say that the two agree to a separate Government of Nagalim, which will look into Naga affairs.

However separate flag and Constitution is yet to be resolved.

The delaying tactics clearly shows insincerity on the part of the Government of India, he added.

TNL president Hopingson A Shimray explained the main objective of the Tangkhul community in holding a fast for three days.

Time has come for Tangkhuls to repent and confess, to seek forgiveness from others for any hurt caused to others in the past, added the TNL president.

Three days fasting programme should be observed as a mark of repentance, he added.

Tangkhuls should now build a cordial relationship with all communities for peaceful co-existence.

The programme was attended by Tangkhul social organization leaders, intellectuals, Church leaders and well wishers.
