Imphal, June 03 2011:
Despite repeated appeals to develop Imphal-Jiribam highway (NH 53) and make it an all weather road, the highway is still deplorable in many sections.
Even as the rainy season has just set in, the highway is unpassable at Sibilon, Nung Dalan, Shanti Khunou and Kaimai.
The condition of the highway deteriorates at Mahadev area of Sibilon, Nung Dalan and Shanti Khunou where the road surface has started sinking.
The indented line made by vehicle wheels is now filled with water and is literally serving as drain as no proper road-side drain was constructed there, conveyed a press release issued by the Transporters' and Drivers' Council (TDC) today.
It also reminded about the complaint it filed against BRTF at Gauhati High Court for development of Imphal-Jiribam highway.
Even then, BRTF has been paying little attention.
As such there is an urgent need on the part of the State Government to set up a committee or a monitoring cell to supervise the highway development work being undertaken by BRTF so as to redress the woes faced by people while travelling along the highway.
