Awareness programme on substance abuse held at Wangbal; CADA Wangbal Unit opened

As part of the ongoing fight against the menace of drugs and alcoholism and to root it out from the State by the Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA), an awareness programme jointly organized by Wangbal Women Development Association, Wangbal MayaiLeikai; Social Development Club, Wangbal MayaiLeikai; Social Welfare Club, Wangbal Maning Leikai and CADA Thoubal District Committee, was conducted at Ikop Ningthou Laibung, Wangbal Mayai Leikai in Thoubal District on May lat around 2 pm.
The programme was attended by Ningthoujam Sorohini, Secretary, Wangbal Women Development Association; Sapam Goura, Senior Citizen; Heisnam Manichand, Pradhan, Wangbal Gram Panchayat; and Mayengbam Budhi, Secretary Organisation CADA as presidium members while Geetchandra Mangang, Secretary General, CADA attended the programme as resource person.
Speaking at the occasion, Geetchandra Mangang said that the role of Club and Meira paibees is crucial in bringing development to a locality and village.
"If the Club and Meira paibees are active in a locality then they can easily prevent many unwanted incidents in the village including the menace of substance abuse, theft crime and in leading the youth to a positive path", he added.
He continued that combined efforts is required to save the youths from the cycle of drug abuse and alcoholism adding that it is high time that we shelved the habit of indulging in heavy drinking during any religious rituals.
He also expressed apprehension about the steady rise of consumption of tobacco by the women while eating pan (kwa jarda) which can cause cancer on massive scale few years down the line.
Mayengbam Budhi, Secretary Organisation CADA also said that it has now become a trend to consume alcohols and and other intoxicants during any religious festivals and other rituals which can cause serious health issues and dent the economic health of the society.
Later, the CADA Wangbal Unit was also opened followed by the formation of executive committee which members include Kh Basanti as President; Kh Bimola, Nepram Khomdonbi as Vice-President; Ningthoujam Sorohini as Secretary General; Waikhom Rashi as Secy Finance; Aheibam Radhatombi as Secy Information & Publicity; Sagolsem Sagar as Secy Org; K Santikiran as Secretary Women Affairs; Nepram Prema as Secretary Drive while Keidongbam Premashwori; Sapam Promila; Thokchom Bina; Nepram Maipaksana; Nongthombam Asha; Okram Memcha; Laishram Premila; Sapam Pishakmacha; Sapam Jiten; Kh Arunkumar; Rumesh were elected as executive members.
