To denounce 'partiality,' beneficiaries return relief amount

To denounce the alleged partiality of the State Govt in distribution of compensation amount to earthquake affected victims of Yumnam Khunou, four families have returned the amount to SDO, Sawombung today.
Haobijam Ibomcha Singh of Yumnam Khunou Awang Leikai, Haobijam Kulachandra Singh of Yumnam Khunou Awang Leikai, Leisangthem Shamungou Singh of Yumnam Khunou Mayai Leikai and Kangjam Samarendra Singh of Yumnam Khunou alleged that the amount given to them as relief fund by the authority concerned lacks fairness.
They said that two of the worst affected families were given an amount Rs 3,200 each and the two other were given Rs 5,200 each.
Four other families were given Rs 95,100 each as relief fund, according to the affected households.

Leishangthem (O) Memchoubi w/o L Shamungou commented that the partiality the authority concerned is unacceptable.
She alleged that the local MLA, who is also the Speaker of the Assembly distributed the compensation at his own whims and fancy on April 19 and 20, she alleged.
Without the Govt's help they have been surviving and still can, she said.
Meanwhile SDO, Sawombung Dr RK Dayananda clarified that the relief amount was fixed according to norms provided by the National Disaster Response Fund after dual assessment were done by the SDC, Sagolmang and engineers of the Public Works Department, Govt of Manipur.
It is now certain that the affected families are not pleased with the relief fund provided; a reassessment of the damaged households of Yumnam Khunou area will be done within three days, he assured.
