Imphal, December 01 2024:
The Coordinating Committee for Crisis Resolution Manipur (CCCRM) has demanded resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh citing his failure to resolve the crisis and bring peace and normalcy in the strife-torn State.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhavan today, CCCRM convenor O Sumatibala said the Indian democracy under the BJP-led Governments has been eroded.
In the nearly 19 months old conflict, the Centre and the State Government have failed to protect the lives and properties of the citizens of Manipur, she said.
"The State Government under CM N Biren is unable to act or say anything to the Centre on the Manipur crisis.
Instead of acting as the leader in the face of a crisis, the CM is rather acting like a common person," Sumatibala said, asserting that the CM should resign for his failures.
Thousands of Central security forces have been rushed to the State since the beginning of the conflict but they have failed to contain the violence.
Instead of deploying the Central security forces in Imphal and other urban areas, they should be deployed in sensitive and vulnerable areas where they are needed to thwart attacks on civilian settlements, Sumatibala said.
Amid the conflict, innocent women and children have been abducted and killed.
Farmers working in the fields have been fired upon, injured and killed.
A civilian has now gone missing inside Army camp, she said.
Sumatibala said people have lost faith in the Army for their biased approach in handling the Manipur crisis.
People are unable to trust the Army, especially after the mysterious disappearance of a civilian inside the Army camp at Leimakhong, she added.
Laishram Kamalbabu went missing inside the Leimakhong Army camp on November 25 .
Kamalbabu hails from Silchar and he was staying at his brother's residence at Loitang Khunou when he went missing.
He was engaged as a work supervisor by a contractor working with Military Engineering Services.
The missing man must be traced and found.
The Army must take their responsibilities seriously, she added.
Further, India already has a Foreigners Act to stop illegal infiltration of people from other countries.
This law must be implemented effectively in Manipur to curb illegal infiltrations from Myanmar and identify those who have entered here illegally, she said.
To better understand and discuss the current situation in Manipur, Sumatibala informed that an open debate on the topic "President's Rule can't resolve the Manipur crisis" will be held on December 14 .
