Locals stress on need for an Old Age Home

The necessity of an Old Age Home at Kangpokpi DHQs to enable the older persons of the district to contribute and participate in the society, was experienced during the observation of International Day of Older Persons at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the DC Office, Kangpokpi, today .
The International Day of Older persons, was observed under the theme ‘Stepping into the Future: Tapping the talents, Contributions and participation of Older Persons in the Society’ and saw a huge participation of older persons from the district .
T Ranjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi, graced the event as the chief guest while M Pradip Singh, Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi and H Balkrisna Singh, Additional DC, Kangpokpi, attended the event as the president and guest of honour respectively .

The event was flagged off by lighting the candles by the chief guest as well as other dignitaries to raise awareness of how vital older people are as a part of the community and to eradicate down age discrimination and also to recognize the contributions of older persons and to examine issues that affect their lives .
T Ranjit Singh, speaking to the huge gathering of older persons, emphasized on addressing various urgent concerns of elderly person, including quality health care and noted that it is imperative to provide the elderly people, a stress free life and a place or a living space which is designed to give them a holistic lifestyle .
He said that the event is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions older people make to the society and raised awareness of the issues and challenges of ageing among all communities .
He explained that at present India has around 100 million elderly people and the number is expected to increase to 323 million by 2050, constituting 20 per cent of the total population .
The DC also informed the older persons that the door of the District Administration is always open wide so as to support and help them in any matters .
"To care and love those who care for you is the dignity of life and the greatest blessing", asserted M Pradip Singh, SP Kangpokpi, while stressing on the essence of older persons in the family and society and honouring their immense contribution towards the society .
H Balkrisna Singh and N Usharani Devi, DSWO Kangpokpi, also spoke on the occasion and emphasized the vital roles played by older persons in the society .
Blankets and plates were distributed to all the older persons participating in the event.
The people expressed that setting up a proper and vibrant Old Age Home at Kangpokpi DHQs will definitely serve as an elder-care mechanisms and a platform for them increase their contribution to the society.
