High School students protest teachers' transfer

Students and parents of Chakpikarong Government High School and Toupokpi Government High School in Chandel district staged a sit-in-protest against transfer of teachers in mid academic session.
During the sit-in-protest, they put up placards and banners inscribed with 'No transfer of teachers', 'We oppose transfer of teachers', 'Don't desert students on the way', 'Revoke transfer order', 'Implement Right to Education Act effectively', etc.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, one of the students told reporters that the school is facing many acute problems due to transfer of teachers.
He also urged the Government and authority concerned to revoke the transfer order.
A team of BJP and Anal Naga Chiefs Association, Chakpikarong led by Tongsin Beton, vice-president of Kishan Morcha Manipur Pradesh visited Chakpikarong and Toupokpi Government High Schools.
Thumdang Anal, president of the Anal Naga Chiefs Association Chakpikarong told the media persons that the association would oppose transfer of teachers in mid academic session.
A decision to continue staging sit-in-protest and boycotting classes was also taken by the association along with the students and parents, if the transfer order was not revoked, he added.
The chiefs' president further warned that if the department concerned fails to revoke the transfer order even after that, the association would launch several intense form of agitations till all the demands are fulfilled.
While speaking to media persons, Tongsin Beton vice-president Kishan Morcha BJP Manipur Pradesh said that notwithstanding all the problems endured by the students due to shortage of teachers, the State Government has transferred teachers recently instead of providing adequate teachers.
He further said that the education system in the State landed in total mess as teachers were frequently transfered even in the middle of the academic session.
While expressing dissatisfaction over the deteriorating education system of the State, Tongsin Beton also assured the parents and the students that he would apprise the Governor of the State and Union Human Resource Development Minister regarding the prevailing education system that besieges the State of Manipur.
It may be mentioned that the Directorate of Education (S), Government of Manipur issued transfer order of 30 teachers including five teachers of Chakpikarong Government High School and four teachers of Toupokpi Government High School on August 26 last.
Incidentally both the schools are facing shortage of teachers.
