Demonstration staged against action on village volunteers, call for unity raised

Raising the call for unity among all the people during this crucial juncture, a mass demonstration was staged today along National Highway 102 (Imphal-Moreh) from Kakwa to Arapti.
Hundreds of women holding placards turned up for the mass demonstration organised by Peace and Integrity Committee Kyamgei (PICK) in association with All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup, Committee of Forward Clubs Thongju, Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Thongju, All Lilong Chajing Club Organization, Apunba Lilong Chajing Meira Paibi Lup, Urup Arapti Development Coordinating Committee, Apunba Urup Arapti Meira Paibi, Langthabal and Bashikhong Kongba Irong Apunaba Meira Paibi Lup.

Extending solidarity to the village volunteers and AT who have been relentlessly fighting the hostility of the Kukis ever since the conflict began in May last year, the demonstrators shouted slogans demanding the Government to not take action against AT and village volunteers.
The women folk also appealed to the State Forces, AT and village volunteers to not lay down their arms, and co-exist in harmony to protect the integrity of Manipur.
Speaking on the sidelines of the mass demonstration, PICK convenor Ch Meghachandra said that the State Government should make its stand clear to the public regarding the 10 Kuki MLAs who have opposed the unanimous resolution adopted by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on SoO.
He urged the Government to update the public about the present status/ situation of the SoO agreement with the Kuki militants which ended on February 29 .
He also mentioned that the Assembly should take a resolution to end the prolonged conflict which has been going on for more than 10 months and restore peace & normalcy in Manipur.
Highlighting that the State Forces and village volunteers have been playing a significant role in protecting innocent lives, Meghachandra urged both the sides to put aside their differences to safeguard the integrity of Manipur.
Denouncing the attempts to arrest the village volunteers, All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup president M Sobita said that the State Government should acknowledge their crucial role in protecting innocent lives during the onging conflict and refrain from taking up any form of action against them.
