CM blames inadequate civic sense for pollution

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has asserted that lack of civic sense and common sense among the public is the major cause of environmental pollution.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of administrative wing and laboratory wing of the Manipur Pollution Control Board building located at Imphal West DC Office Complex, Lamphelpat today.
The Chief Minister said that steps would be taken to ban vehicles which are above 15 years old and are in bad shape.
Mentioning about improper waste disposal on the banks of Nambul River, Biren said that police would be deployed in civil dress to check improper disposal of garbage and pull up the culprits.
The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts and steps taken up by the Manipur Pollution Control Board to address issues related to water pollution, air & vehicular pollution, improper waste disposal in various areas of the State etc.
"We all should know that maintaining good health is the most important thing of our lives.
The Govt would discuss about the upgradation of the MPCB to the status of a Directorate as it has a huge responsibility towards making Manipur clean", Biren said.
Manipur remains an underdeveloped State in the country due to the lack of strategic planning and vision on the part of the previous Govts, he said.
He appealed to the people of the State to leave aside greed to achieve inclusive development in the State.
The CM said that the primary objective of the present Govt is to respect and uphold the rights and dignity of the people and also to render service with a humane touch.
Mentioning about the newly launched CMHT, CMST etc, he said that the Govt has initiated various welfare schemes for the people of the State recently.
He appealed to the people to work with sincerity and dedication for the welfare of the State.
