Imphal, June 30 2013:
The abortive attempt to trigger hand-grenade blast inside Comet School yesterday morning has been strongly condemned by democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), with the students' body terming the incident as an infringement on the wish of the student community to pursue education under a conducive environment.
After a Chinese hand-grenade was spotted inside the campus of the school, located at Changangei Ucheckon at around 5 am yesterday a team of police bomb disposal unit had safely retrieved the explosive device.
Reacting strongly against the bomb threat/blast attempt, DESAM president Wangmayum Islauddin told newspersons at its Keishampat head office today that the incident amounts to further aggravating situation in this strife-torn State.
Highlighting that DESAM had recently resumed an extensive campaign on 'Disturbance Free Education Zone' to not only promote quality education in Manipur but also expose administrative lapses hampering development in the education sector, Islauddin opined the Comet School incident is an affront to the ongoing campaign.
Reminding all concerned that education is the only basis for a society to achieve all-round development, the president asked armed outfits as well as pseudo-UGs to honour sanctity of educational institutions and refrain from such condemnable acts in the future.
Islauddin also appealed to transport agencies to provide free of cost travel to those people who would be participating at mass public rallies on July 5 at different locations.
The rallies would be organised by DESAM as a part of the 'Disturbance Free Education Zone' campaign.
