RK Sanatomba Journalist Award for Ng Amukhomba of Hueiyen Lanpao

Amukhomba Ngangbam reporter of Hueiyen Lanpao local daily was conferred the prestigious RK Sanatomba Journalist Award 2011 sponsored by the family of Late RK Sanatomba the then editor of Kangla Lanpao.
The event was organised by the RK Sanatomba Memorial Trust at GM Hall Imphal.
The prestigious award was presented by Sanatomba's mother Mangileima.
Amukhomba was selected for conferment of the award considering his work of investigative reporting during the calendar year 2010.The award carries an amount of Rs.20,000 and a shawl.
Social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima, Mangileima, mother of Late RK Sanatomba, Prof W Nabakumar, Department of Anthropology Manipur University and President All Manipur Bar Association, A Indrakumar were the presidium members of the function.
Professor Soyam Lokendrajit, Department of Philosophy, MU talked on 'Freedom, Democracy and Development' .
Speaking in the function, Professor W Nabakumar said that the press should be an independent body in order to enable proper functioning and safeguarding of liberty.
It is a neutral body and has no enemy and no friend.
Media persons should carry out their duties in the general interest of the public but not for personnel interest.
If they publish reports serving only the interests of the elite and high ranking persons, people will rise against them.
He said that the primary duty of a journalist is to provide assistance to the victims of oppression and exploitation.
The media plays a major role in correcting the flaws of the society.
RK Sanatomba during his stint as editor of Kangla Lanpung had done his duty with sincerity and he had expressed his wish for journalists to do their duty with sincerity.
President, All Manipur Bar Association A Indrakumar said that the media has brought many changes in the state.
Unfortunately, media persons in the state are still unable to do their duty without any fear.
Media is the fourth estate in the governance of a democratic republic.
