Kakching, May 31 2024:
The Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) Kakching has raised serious concern over the non-functioning of Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) Kakching over the past one year due to the outbreak of ethnic conflict since May 2023 .
The president and general secretary of JNGVO P Kakching in a press release highlighted that the non-functioning of POPSK Kakching and closure of online application of passport has severely affected those who want to apply passports for educational and other purposes.
The closure of the online application of passports by POPSK Kakching ever since the outbreak of ethnic conflict in May 3, 2023 has caused immense inconveniences to the passport applicants of the region mainly from Kakching, Chandel, Tengnoupal, Thoubal and parts of Imphal West districts.
In view of the above, the JNGVO Kakching has urged the authorities concerned to resume the functioning of POPSK Kakching by June 7, 2024 in the larger interest of the people failing which the organisation will be compelled to take up intense agitation along with the support of the residents of the district.
The JNGVO Kakching also raised questions over the agenda behind the non-function of POPSK Kakching for more than a year though internet services have been restored months back and the other Government establishments have been functioning as normal.
'Amid these circumstances, there is a deep apprehension of shifting the said Post Office Passport Seva Kendra from Kakching to Churachandpur under the influence of vested interests of some people', said the release.
In connection with the above grave issue, the JNGVO Kakching on behalf of the people of Kakching district appealed to the Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India not to shift Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) from Kakching.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, the president and general secretary of JNGVO Kakching urged the Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India not to shift POPSK from Kakching at any cost in the larger interest of the people.
Furthermore, the organisation sought the attention of all concerned to shift the current rented office of POPSK Kakching to the newly constructed office building for the convenience of the applicants.
It may be noted that the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, Kakching was inaugurated by Dr RK Ranjan Singh, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education on November 19, 2021 at Kakching.
