Many resolve to shorten Holi fest to 3 days

Altogether 54 clubs, organisations and associations under Heingang constituency have unanimously resolved to celebrate Holi festival for three days for this year.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Pangeijam Gojendra, president of Heingang Kendra Sporting Union said that 54 clubs, organisations and associations under the constituency held a joint meeting recently and resolved to shorten the five days Holi festival to three days for this year.
He elaborated that the resolution was unanimously adopted in view of the ongoing Class X and XII examinations conducted by BSEM and COHSEM respectively.
He appealed to the clubs under Heingang AC not to organise entertainment programmes other than social service and sports event during the festival.
He said that smearing each other with coloured powders and indulging in grand feasts under the influence of drugs in the name of Holi festival demoralise the society.
He also said that organising various entertainment programmes in the name of the festival distract minds of the students appearing in the Board examinations.
He said that Manipur is known for its rich art and culture and sporting talents but celebrating festivals like Holi for many days only lead youth to indulge in immoral activities.
He exhorted youth of Heingang AC to contribute towards development of art and culture and give emphasis only on sports during the Holi festival.
On the other hand, All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association (AMRPSWA), Apunba Ireipak Ki Maheiroi Singpanglung (AIMS) and Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) jointly organised a discussion programme on the topic "Yaoshang Kumheigi Houjik Honglakliba Mawong Matou Amadi Khunaida Piriba Cheitheng Sing" at Manipur Press Club today.
The programme was attended by cultural activist Ningthouja Lancha as moderator; senior journalist Leihaothabam Sharatchandra; eminent writer Chana Lukhoi; senior Asst Professor (Economics), MU, Dr Chinglen Meisnam and AMRPSWA general secretary L Joy Khuman as resource persons.
Addressing the gathering, Ningthouja Lancha said that shortening of Holi festival to two days cannot be decided merely by a group of people.
He said that the question whether Holi festival, the longest public holiday must be shortened or not should be discussed collectively through a bigger platform.
Members present at the discussion programme demanded the State Government to open all the Government offices and educational institutes from the third day of the festival.
They demanded appropriate disciplinary action be taken against those who defy the order.
The members appealed to the people to stop collecting money on the streets for organising Thabal Chongba and other entertainment programmes from the third day of the festival.
