MMTA organises water sports at Ningthoukhong Canal

In connection with its 34th foundation day and as part of Youth Adventure and Water Sports Festival 2019, which began on December 27 at Lamdan, Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association (MMTA) has organised water sports at Ningthoukhong Canal, today.
The 10-day festival sponsored by Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India and Directorate of Tourism, Govt of Manipur will continue till December 5 at different locations.
Competition on different sporting events like local boat race, traditional type fishing, canoe and kayaking, water surfing, rafting, swimming, water zorbing water rolling and bird watching camp were the main events of the day.

Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Director of Loktak Development Authority (LDA), L Bhagaton Singh lauded MMTA for their initiative to promote healthy lifestyle in the State and assured that all possible help will be extended from LDA side in organising such festival in the future.
Saying that many inconveniences are faced while organising such festival due to lack of required infrastructures and facilities as of now, he added that many project plans have been created to promote Loktak Lake to a world standard.
MMTA president, Bijoy Kakchingtabam also spoke about the difficulties faced while organising water festival due to lack of proper infrastructures, facilities and water space.
If the authority concerned give the festival site to MMTA, more efficient and productive training programme and course on water sports can be organised and produce good players of such sporting event from the State, he said and extended gratitude to all those who extended help in organising the festival.
Social scientist, Dr IS Konthoujam also spoke at the event.
Saying that youth have a certain role to play in building better and prosperous Manipur, Dr IS Konthoujam exuded confidence that the festival will provide a platform for the youth to become a healthy, responsible, and caring citizens.
He also appealed all to support and encourage the initiative taken up by MMTA to save the young boys and girls far from going astray.
