Imphal, December 31 2018:
Congress MLA Kh Joykisan has asked the State Government to stop witch-hunting those who dare criticise its drawbacks and wrongdoings in social media but focus its time and resources in busting powerful gangs of vehicle lifters.
Speaking to media persons at his Khoyathong residence today, Joykisan said that numerous posts about loss of vehicles are being uploaded in social media every single week.
Instead of taking up any concrete action to check the rampant criminal act of lifting vehicles, the State Government has been unleashing vengeful wrath against people who dare criticise its drawbacks and wrongdoings in social media, Joykisan said.
Saying that there have been reports of setting up an Anti-Theft Department in the State, the Congress MLA asked how many vehicle lifters have been arrested by the Government.
It's time for the Government to give due attention to the rampant practice of lifting vehicles, he said.
Even after criminal involved in lifting a two-wheeler (Bullet Enfield) from a locality of Thangmeiband have been identified through CCTV footages, the Government is still unable to nab the criminals.
Anti-social elements involved in lifting a Honda Activa belonging to an employee of Imphal Airport too have been identified through CCTV footages but the criminals are still at large, he lamented.
The failure of Heingang Police to nab the thieves who stole a Tata Tipper from a workshop evokes a serious question whether the State Government instructs security forces to be lenient towards gangs of vehicle lifters, Joykisan said.
Pointing out that the State Police have cracked fnany difficult cases and they successfully hunted people who criticised the Government and nabbed them from outside the State, Joykisan questioned the failure of the State Police to check the rampant practice of lifting vehicles.
He further questioned the failure of the State Police to recover stolen vehicles even after the vehicle lifters have been arrested.
Joykisan then expressed a strong suspicion whether a powerful clique which can influence the Government is supporting the gangs of vehicle lifters.
He also prayed that the new year may bring peace and prosperity to all the people of Manipur.
Joykisan said that the State Government would receive accolades from the masses if Kishorchandra Wangkhem is handed over to his family as a new year gift.
