Rape case hearing

Sessions Court, Manipur East has fixed May 13 as the date for next hearing of the rape case of a mentally retarded girl hailing from Imphal East district.
The accused of the case has been identified as Laishram Joykumar (44) s/o L Tomba of Tangkhem Awang Leikai.
He is the brother-in-law of the rape survivor.
The accused was today produced before the Court in connection with the incident which occurred on October 11, 2013 .
During today's Court proceedings, three defence witnesses deposed before the Court.
Cross examination of the defence witnesses was also conducted.
Later, the Court reserved May 13 as the date for the next hearing.
It may be mentioned that the alleged rape case occurred during Durga puja festival in 2013 .
It is said that the rape survivor stayed alone at her home that day.
The accused not only allegedly raped the girl repeatedly but also threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
The matter came to light when the victim girl narrated the incident to her family members after which the mother of the victim girl lodged a complaint at Heingang police station.
The accused was pulled up by a team of Heingang police on October 14 at around 8 .30 am and the medical examination of the victim girl was conducted on the previous day at RIMS.
The medical examination of the accused was conducted on October 17, 2013 .
He is a teacher and organising committee secretary of Shining School, Pangei.
