Tengnoupal, December 28 2019:
Claiming that they got Rs 100 (INR) lesser while exchanging Indian Rs 2000 note with Burmese currency, vendors and shops at Namphalong Market have reportedly stopped accepting the Indian currency of Rs 2000 denomination.
While asking about the issue to the officials at Myanmar money exchange office at Namphalong Market, they said that there is no restriction on the exchange of money, but, the shrinking of value while exchanging has nothing to do with them as they are simply following the instruction of the higher authority at Rangoon, Myanmar.
They also said that non-accepting of the said currency note might be due to the news doing the round in social media that the RBI has stopped printing Rs 2000 notes.
It is also reported that as many individuals brought only Rs 2,000 note while coming to deposit money into their accounts at different banks located at Moreh, businessmen, as well as those regular visitors and residents of Moreh, want the authorities concerned to look into the matter as they say they are facing several inconveniences.
