'Pabung Iboyaima' remembered on his 5th death anniversary

The 5th death anniversary of 'Pabung Iboyaima' was observed in a low key event held today at AMUCO's office.
The death anniversary programme, though usually marked by discussion on a topic pertaining to the State, was scaled down considering the COVID-19 situation in the State, said a statement of Pabung Iboyaima Memorial Trust.
The leadership qualities possessed by the personality and the dedication he made during his life which spanned upto 100 years, were remembered during the commemoration programme, it said.
His contribution towards securing territorial integrity, conserving culture and call for unification of all to realise an equitable society and other issues as a leading member of AMESCO, AMAWOVA, AMUCO, Porei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi and various other civil society fronts were also recalled by members present it said.
The late personality was also a follower of Hijam Irabot and had voiced to make Manipur economic and food self reliant.
He opposed the divisive ideas perpetrated by various forces and had dedicated his life in fostering bonds among different communities dwelling in the State, the statement said.
He was also even put behind bar for a remark in support of 'armed movement' as mentioned in the 'Charter of the United Nations' during a function held on April 9, 2000 at Thangmeiband Cheirao Ching to mark the unveiling of busts of Thangal General, Paona Brajabashi, Bir Tikendrajit and Lamyanba Irabot, it said.
Words will fall short to express his vision, integrity and leadership traits, it said.
The members present paid floral tributes to the photo of the late personality, the statement continued.
