Imphal, August 28 2021:
The Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) is eyeing to field candidates in all Assembly segments in the forthcoming Assembly elections, which is due in early 2022.Addressing a felicitation ceremony of Dr Phurailatpam Jillasana who has been appointed as the working chairman of MDA at Babupara, chairman of MDA Bijoy Koijam said that the alliance will field candidates in at least 30-40 Assembly segments, if not in all in the ensuing Assembly polls.
At the function, it was announced that Thangjam Sharma will contest the elections at Khundrakpam AC on a Shiv Sena ticket.
Bijoy Koijam further informed that the MDA has agreed to not field multiple candidates of the alliance partners in a single AC.
It is unlikely that any specific party can get a majority in the 2022 Assembly elections, the former MLA said and added that MDA will support the party which wins the maximum seats to form a stable Government.
Convenor of MDA cum president of Shiv Sena State unit, M Tombi announced that the alliance will submit a memorandum to the Survey of India to carry out the border fencing work at Indo-Myanmar only after a proper survey.
Saying that Manipur might lose a considerable amount of land to Myanmar if the fencing work is done without carrying out the survey, M Tombi appealed to both the Centre and the State Government to do the needful to keep the territory of Manipur intact.
He also appealed to the State Government to identify a proper protest site where people can exercise their right to freedom of speech and expression.
