Speaking to media persons at Imphal West District Police headquarters this evening, Clay Khongsai exuded that CBI would certainly take over the case even though it may take sometime.
This does not mean Manipur Police would slow down its investigation into the controversial death, he added.
Until CBI takes over the case, police would investigate the case at their best level in full swing, asserted the IGP.
"A special investigation team (SIT) led by Imphal West Additional SP A Ghanashyam Sharma has been investigating the case and I'm monitoring the investigation", Clay Khongsai said.
After receiving a complaint from the family of Babysana which listed a number of suspicions, IPC Section 302 (murder) has been added in the FIR registered in connection with the case in addition to IPC Sections 305 (abetment of suicide), 34 (common intention) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2015 which have been already invoked, he said.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 may also be invoked if there are material or circumstantial evidence, he continued.
A Magistrate and a team of Forensic Science Laboratory were also present when inquest was done upon the body of Babysana.
At the insistence of the family and the JAC, post mortem examination was done twice with due permission of the Government.
So far, statements of 36 students have been recorded.

If there is enough evidence, other top officials of the school authority may also be arrested, said the IGP.
DIG Themthing Ngashangva said that the case of Babysana is very sensitive and police have been investigating the case with all seriousness.
He said that befitting action would be initiated against all those people who have been posting misleading videos, photos and comments in social media in connection with the death of Babysana.
