Gaan Ngai celebration kicks off

Imphal, January 27 2021: The State level Gaan Ngai celebration began Tuesday at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen, Palace Compound.

The celebration was organised by the State Level Gaan Ngai Celebration Committee under the theme "Loss of religion is loss of culture, loss of culture is loss of identity" .

Offering of holy wine to Tingkao Ragwang (the Supreme God), shouting of Hoi (invocation of God); extraction of sacred fire and lighting of festival torch were the main events of the inaugural function.

Cultural items - welcome dance by Socio, Cultural & Development Organisation, Mahabali, devotional song by TRC, Chinikon village, Kangpokpi and folk song by Nerisha Gangmei, Chalungkhou village, Churachandpur were also presented.

On the occasion, Social Welfare Minister, Okram Henry and Kshetrigao AC MLA, Nahakpam Indrajit Singh who attended the function as chief guest and guest of honour respectively wished the gatherings a happy Gaan-Ngai and prayed for the festival to bring peace and prosperity in the State.

Senior Resident (Medicine) JNIMS, Dr G Poufullung was the functional president.
