Imphal, January 27 2019:
United Development Club, Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Khutpu, Sagolband Sadokpam Leikai, in collaboration with JCILPS, staged a sit in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 at Sagolband Sadokpam Leikai yesterday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit in protest, JCILPS convenor Yumnamcha Dilipkumar said that the negligent attitude of the State Government despite the rising opposition from the people against the CAB, is highly condemnable.
Reasoning that convening an all political party meeting tomorrow has come a little too late, he said that it is disheartening to see that the State Government leaders are just beginning to try and discuss the possible impact of the Bill in Manipur when the people have been shouting against the Bill since a long time back.
Instead of clinging to their posts and chairs, the political leaders of the State should go to Delhi on an appraisal mission so as to pressure the Rajya Sabha MPs to offer help regarding the Bill.
On the other hand, JCILPS co-convenor Jeetendra Ningomba said that the CAB is a dangerous Bill and if the Bill becomes an Act after it gets passed in the Rajya Sabha, the indigenous people of the entire North East people will be in danger.
At a time when the NE States are finding it hard to control the influx of migrant workers, the Bill will open the floodgates for illegal migrants from three other countries, he added.
