Social activist raises suspicions of misappropriation of funds

Imphal, February 26 2023: Social activist Aheibam Nandakumar has raised suspicions of alleged misappropriation of funds meant for development of Khongampat Gram Panchayat under Imphal West district.

While speaking to media persons during a press conference held at Khongampat, Aheibam Nandakumar stated that they had received a reply to an RTI filed in connection with the developmental works undertaken by Khongampat GP recently.

However, there was a stark discrepancy between the undertakings detailed in the RTI response and the actual developmental works taken up on the field, he alleged.

"It is detailed in the RTI response that a pond was constructed at Khongampat Awang Leikai under a grant of the 13th Finance Commission.

However, this pond does not exist", he claimed.

He further said that a drain was also allegedly constructed under the 13th Finance Commission, but there is no trace of this drain being constructed.

Aside from this, a pond reportedly constructed at Koubru Lai Lampak under the 14th Finance Commission is nowhere to be seen, according to Aheibam Nandakumar.

The social activist continued to add that as per the RTI reply, a waiting shed was constructed near Khamaral Awang Leikai crematorium under State Finance.

Like the others mentioned beforehand, there is no trace of this waiting shed according to Nandakumar.

Detailing all these discrepancies in the RTI reply and actual developmental works taken up, he has raised suspicions of misappropriation of funds.

As such, he has urged the relevant authority to look into the issue and discern if elected representatives are involved in the matter.
