ZSF condemns activities of armed groups

The Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) strongly condemned what it termed as "the infiltration of armed groups and their activities into our society and in the town in recent days" .
In a release on Monday, ZSF said that people of the district are alarmed and at the same time enraged by the sudden rise in crime and other unwanted activities by armed groups from other parts of the state in the past few months.
The students' body then referred to instances of murder, monetary demand on Churachandpur Private Schools' Association (CDPSA), and most recently, the monetary demand served to the principal
of Lamka College, and called for an end to the activities of various armed groups.
"Unwanted underground activities such as murder and extortion are things of the past and should remain so.
The sudden rise in such activities is strongly condemned by the general public and ZSF," the release continued.
The ZSF also said that there are attempts to create instability and an environment of intimidation in the district, and appealed to the law enforcement agencies to take such instances of murder and extortion with utmost seriousness and urgency.
The Federation then said it will continue to strive to ensure peace and harmony in the district while making educational institutions free from such disturbances.
