Workshop for waterbirds identification, census to be held

Imphal, January 25 2023:
A 2-day workshop for identification of waterbirds and counting technique will be held at Mangolnganbi College, Ningthoukhong from 28 � 29 January, 2023 and bird census will be conducted on February 5, 2023 at 50 different counting sites at Loktak Lake.
The workshop will be organised by the Indian Bird Conservation Network (IBCN), Manipur which has been officially coordinating the Loktak Waterbird Census activities since the last 15 years as a part of the Asian Waterbird Count (AWC) under the directive of BNHS, Mumbai, Birdlife International and Wetland International.
The Asian Waterbird Census (AWC) is part of the global International Waterbird Census (IWC).
This Citizen Science programme is supporting conservation and management of wetlands and waterbirds worldwide, said a press release by State Coordinator IBCN, Manipur.
Several higher educational institutions and NGOs are joining in this unique event supported by the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Department of Forest and Loktak Development Authority (LDA), Govt of Manipur.
