Like in the past International Fortnight Protesting violence Against Women, Girls and Children would be observed from November 25 onward in various parts of the State.
speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club about events to be held during the observance, secretary of Women Action for Development (WAD) Sobita Mangsatabam said upto December 10 the campaign to highlight plight and suffering of women and children would be carried out in all the nine districts.
Informing that WAD had been observing the occasion since 2003, Sobita said unlike in the past the Fortnight observance would cover the hill districts and will culminate at MDU Hall on December 12 .
During the period of observance this year to be held on the theme 'Structures of violence: defining the intersections of militarism and violence against women', essay competition, blood donation camps, sessions on women's rights and child trafficking with particular reference to the Tamenglong district issue.
Slogan competition, award of fellowship to journalists, street corner meeting, poster campaign, slide shows, candle lighting would be carried out at educational instutions in all the districts, detailed secretary Mangshatabam Sobita.
Urging for cooperation to the campaign from all sections of the society, Sobita also emphasised on the need for unitedly tackling violence against women and children.
she also expressed that only pro-active measures and actions could lessen impact of burden being endured by women and children in a State like Manipur where arm conflicts has become a daily event.
