Imphal, May 23 2020:
In view of the mass returning of Manipuris from different parts of the country due to the pandemic by bus, train and private vehicles, Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) has urged the State Government to regulate a strict policy to be followed by inmates of quarantines centres at the earliest.
In a statement issued today, KIMACS also appealed all State natives at quarantine centres or are returning to the State to act responsibly to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
Saying that the State witnessed a sudden change in COVID status since evacuating Manipuris from different cities, KIMACS alleged that many returnees flouted guidelines laid down by the Government and WHO while journeying and risked the lives of many.
Many returnees also acted recklessly inside the quarantine centre and some even 'refused to quarantine for 14 days', it claimed further alleging that some people even gathered in a group and organised a liquor party in quarantine centres.
KIMACS also opined that returning home only after testing once is not fair.
Lamenting that more State's natives, including from areas declared as Red Zone will reach Manipur in short duration, it urged all concerned not to mix old inmates and the new one.
Security forces should be stationed at quarantine centres and inmates who are found flouting the guideline should be penalised accordingly, it said and further appealed to the State Government to provide curfew pass to the volunteers of quarantine centres also to ensure sufficient manpower at such centres.
Further appealing to the general public to stop the stigmatization of returnees and frontline workers in fear of COVID-19, KIMACS expressed a desire for the State Government to provide some sort of life insurance for people who are volunteering to combat COVID-19 at their capacity.
