Workshop on Manipuri dance ends

A one month long children workshop on Manipuri Dance organised by Lianda Folk and Classical Academy, Nagamapal Soram Leirak, Imphal West under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Akademi concluded yesterday at Progressive Artistes Laboratory, Lamboikhongnangkhong.
The closing ceremony was graced by Padmashree S Thanil Singh, ex-Pradhan of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy as chief guest; N Tiken Singh, director of PAL and State Member NEZCC as president and Rajamani Ayekpam, theatre critic as guest of honour.
The workshop's productions were performed during the function.
The productions include Guru Bandana (group song), Maibi Jagoi (group dance), Leima Thougalo Jagoi (group dance), Krishna Abhisar (recital), Mao Dance (group dance), Kom Dance (group dance), Nila Kamala (recital), Dasa Avatar (recital) and Chali Jagoi (group dance) .
Speaking on the occasion, Guru Thanil stated that childhood is the best period to mould a child and Lianda Academy has done a noble deed for moulding children in a proper way.
He lauded the activities initiated by the academy in promoting rich forms of dance and music of Manipur.
A raseswori Devi, director of the workshop said that tradition dies once we stop practicing.
Our art forms contain many useful elements of education.
The workshop is a part of education that tries to explore the different potentials and talents of children.
It may be mentioned that Lianda Academy has exposed the beatiful rhytms of Manipuri classical and folk dances at many national and international stages like Khajuraho Festival, Lok Tarang Festival, Octave Festival, International Cultural Mart, Indian Cultural Evening at Mandalay, Surin International Festival of Folklore and Congo Folk Festival.
