Imphal, December 22 2019: The United Tribal People's Council Manipur (UTPCM) has denounced alleged appointment of a junior officer as Director in-charge of Agriculture Department bypassing the 'senior most' officer.

S Azar, president of the UTPCM told media persons at Manipur Press Club today that "L Irabot Singh, who was promoted as a Joint Director in Agriculture Department by an order dated July 23, was supposed to be appointed as Director of the Department as he is the senior most officer" .

"However an officer who is junior to him has been occupying the post of Director in-charge," he said adding that L Irabot Singh is a technical officer and well experienced.

Accusing the authority concerned of not following the relevant rules of promotion on the basis of seniority, S Azar appealed the State Government to look into the matter and appoint L Irabot as the Director of the Department at the earliest.

The UTPCM will take up 'necessary actions' in accordance with law if its appeal is not heard, he said.
