Police seize WY tablets, 2,700 bottles cough syrup

Kakching/Jiri, October 22 2020: A team of Kakching commandos arrested two youth along with 6.037 kg of World is Yours (WY) tablets from Pallel Police Station gate, yesterday at around 7.30 pm .

According to police, Kakching commandos carried out frisking and checking of vehicles near Pallel Police Station gate on receiving specific information about illegal transportation of drugs along the Imphal Moreh road.

One Mahindra XUV was detained on suspicion and while checking the vehicle 6.037 kg of WY tablets wrapped in plastic were found inside the vehicle.

Hence, the two persons coming in the vehicle were arrested on the spot by observing necessary formalities and also seized the WY tablets.

On spot verification, the arrested individuals were identified as Buyamayum Aslam Khan, (24) S/o Md Jakir Hussain of Lilong Haoreibi Leihaokhong and Md Azamir Hussain (20), S/o Md Jakir Hussain of Lilong Haoreibi Ubakthong Mathak.

Both the arrested persons and the seized WY tablets have been handed over to Kakching Police Station for taking up necessary action under ND&PS Act.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Anti Drug Cell, Jiribam Unit and Jiribam Police Station seized 2,700 bottles of banned COFREN CD cough syrup while checking all incoming Imphal bound loaded trucks along NH37, yesterday.

A press release issued by Jiribam SP, M Mubi Singh said that the cough syrup bottles were found concealed in 27 cartons of one truck.

The SP said that the loaded truck along with the driver namely, Biplob Baisnab (20), S/o Promode Baisnab of Khelma Village PArt VI, Cachar Assam were brought at Jiribam Police Station.

On questioning, the driver revealed that all 27 cartons containing COFREN-CD cough syrup along with other goods were loaded from one M/S North Eastern Carrying Corporation Ltd located at Guwahati, Assam, he said and added that the driver was arrested and seized the banned items for taking up legal actions.

An investigation is underway to establish the owner of the consignment as well as other associates at the earliest, the SP added.
