Imphal, February 22 2015:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM-T) has vehemently condemned the attack of COHSEM officials including the Chairman at Lilong Haoreibi college by a mob for alleged expulsion of students for using unfair means during the Class XII examination.
A statement issued by Vareiyo Shatsang, general secretary of ATSUM said that copying from friends, books or getting help from friends and invigilators etc are all 'unfair means,' and due to the high prevalence of such practice, education system in Manipur is at a low ebb.
Now, with dynamic bureaucrats in the Education Department, much has been done to do away with such malpractices, it said.
Instigation by senior citizens/parents to dismantle eight vehicles of the COHSEM flying squad including those of the Council's Chairman, Secretary and SDO of Lilong was wanton and not tolerable in a civilized society.
It is a disgrace that Haoreibi College at Lilong is tarnishing the image of the Education Department, it said.
The Govt order that blacklisted Lilong Haoreibi college against the backdrop of yesterday's incident was justified, it asserted.
It further demanded that the three students who are held responsible for causing the mob to rise against the officials be given stringent punishment.
The OCs of the examination and uniformed personnel on duty should not be left to go scot free as they are directly or indirectly related to the pandemonium, the ATSUM statement said.
'Clean examination' is a catchy quote and to keep the examination clean involves the overall efforts and contributions of us all, big and small.
Flying squads or invigilators or for that matter the Education Department alone cannot wipe off the system of mass copying in the examination, the statement further said.
Administrators, educationists and civil societies should not leave any stone unturned to do away with the system of mass copying, unfair means etc, it said while also urging parents and guardians to instruct their children to help wipe out the practice of unfair means during times of examinations.
