A seven-day Ningol Chakkouba Mela (fair) organised by Manipur Apex Handloom & handicraft Weavers/Artisans' Cooperative Society Limited has been inaugurated today by Commerce and Industries Director V Tualthang at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound.
handloom and handicraft products are being exhibited for sale at 95 stalls at the fair organised in connection with the ensuing Ningol Chakkouba, the grandest festival of the majority Meitei community.
speaking as the chief guest Director Tualthang said marketing a product is the most important factor for any business to flourish and expressed that the forthcoming Ningol Chakkouba festival is one of the most suitable occasion for handloom and handicraft items to record a bumper sale.
Opining that not will be the local artisans benefit from participation in the fair but the buyers will also be provided the most opportune moment to choose and purchase items of their liking at affordable rates, the Commerce and Industries Director conveyed that under the objective of reaching to maximum number of buyers such fairs are being organised at various other locations.
He affirmed that efforts are on to conduct trade fairs throughout the year at a suitable place.
Officer on special Duty (H/L) M Rajen Singh, who attended the fair's inaugural programme as functional president noted that there had been increasing demand for handloom and handicraft items in the State, especially during festive occasions.
Suggesting that local weavers/artisans should familiarise with technological advancement to not only enhance their production capacity but also maintain quality of the product, Rajen reiterated that any quality product made available to the customers at affordable rates can guarantee brisk business.
President of the fair host society M Satyabhama Devi was the guest of honour of the inaugural programme.
