Three-day international conference on Child Rights and Art Education kicks off

A three-day international conference on "Art Education and Child Rights" commenced today at RK Sanatombi Devi College of Education, North AOC.
The conference was jointly organised by Manipur University of Culture, RK Sanatombi Devi College of Education and Surindra Rajabhat University (SRRU), Surin, Thailand in association with the Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur.
Speaking as the chief guest, Tanom Intarakumnerd, Chairman of Surindra Rajabhat University Council and Suan Dusit University Council, stressed on the importance of imbibing young students, who are the future of the State, with the knowledge of art education.
Tanom added that the three-day conference will prove to be beneficial in shaping the future career of children.
Addressing the gathering as the guest of honour, Professor Gunindro Paonam, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture stated that there is a need for experts to share ideas about art education and child rights among their circles.
He stated that it is the duty of teachers to sharpen the young minds in various aspects and subjects including personality, inbome talents and other skills.
Meanwhile Uttam Ngangom, Director, Social Welfare Department, delivered a speech as the guest of honour and also stressed on the role of teachers in moulding young students and their future.
Thus, it is crucial for teachers to be aware about child rights.
He pointed out that each district is equipped with a Juvenile Justice Board, Child Welfare Committee and District Child Protection Unit.
Additionally, the toll free child line number 1098 operates 24 hours a day.
The Social Welfare Director asserted that in case of child abuse, the perpetrators can be given stringent punishments.
Speaking as the functional president, Thongram Asha, vice chairperson, RK Sanatombi Devi Educational Institute Manipur spoke about the emerging digital era and the need for teachers to be trained accordingly.
During the first academic session of the three-day international conference, Tanom Intarakumnerd, Chairman of Surindra Rajabhat University Council presented a paper on child rights and the system of teacher education and development.
Many other dignitaries presented their papers during the second academic session this afternoon.
The conference is set to conclude on July 23 .
