Health check should be done before vaccination: AITUC

Imphal, February 20 2021: Thorough health check-up should be done prior to getting COVID-19 vaccine shot.

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC, Manipur) said this in a statement issued today regarding the death of 'Anganwadi' worker Naorem Sundari after receiving the vaccine.

The statement said, the deceased Anganwadi worker was affiliated to AITUC and was also a very important member of AITUC.

Her sudden demise after receiving the vaccine is not a random case and similar incidents have also happened elsewhere in India, which suggests lapses in the part of the medical authority in the vaccination programme and needs to be enquired thoroughly, added the statement.

AITUC also said the vaccination should be completely voluntary in nature and should not be forced upon anyone.

If vaccination is forced upon anyone, who will take responsibiliuty when any untoward incident happens to the person afterwards, questioned the statement.

The union is also demanding 50 lakhs and a suitable government job for a family member as compensation, added the statement.

It is noteworthy that Naorem Sundari had received the COVID vaccine on February 12.AITUC and its members shared the grief of the bereaved family in the statement.
