Senapati, November 19 2017:
Extending maximum support for development of the main lifeline of the State National Highway-2 which is undergoing major black-topping and widening works after almost two decades, the Naga People's Organization (NPO) has appealed for public support and co-operation.
It has called upon the concerned private company Bhartia Infra Project Limited (BIPL) which has been assigned to execute the 75 kms works from Mao-gate to Koubru Leikha not to compromising the quality and standard of the work.
Apart from black-topping the NH-2, BIPL will also widen the highway by 1.75 meters on both sides within a stipulated time of 3 years.
However, due to prolong rainy season this year, the dateline is likely to be extended.
According to a statement issued by NPO, a presidential meeting of the organisation was held on November 7 where it was resolved to seek mass support while warning any individual or organization against creating any disturbance or hindrance during the implementation of the said works.
The meeting also resolved that any complaints or issues related to NH-2 works can be put forward through respective tribe hohos to facilitate uninterrupted and effective implementation of the project.
With BIPL work force already on the ground since October end after the withdrawal of the monsoon rain, the widening works has started in many parts of the NH-2 specially between Senapati and Koubru Leikha stretch while filling of potholes has been completed in most parts.
It may be noted that, the present State Government has pitched for development of both NH-37 and NH-2 on priority basis but the unending rain this year since early March failed to kick off the work in time much to the dismay of the people.
Repeated attempts for minor repairing even failed amidst the helplessness of the Govt and PWD.
Soon after approval and awarding of works to BIPL by the Manipur Government, the company had stationed its machinery since late summer but continuous rain played spoilsport in every attempt.
