Shija observes 4 th National Pharmacovigilance Week

Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt Ltd (SHRI) in collaboration with Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), marked the 4th National Pharmacovigilance Week on September 19, 2024 at Shija Auditorium.
The theme of this year's event was "Building ADR Reporting Culture for Patient Safety".
According to a release issued by SHRI, the programme aimed to raise awareness about the importance of reporting Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) to enhance patient care.
The event saw participation from around 100 attendees.
Dr Baby Kangujam, Medical Officer In-Charge at Shija Hospitals, delivered the welcome and keynote address.
Dr Khumanthem Deepak Singh, Pharmacovigilance Associate at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), led a session on creating a culture of ADR reporting for patient safety.
He explained the causes of ADRs, the need for reporting, and outlined the reporting process.
Dr Palin Khundongbam, CMD of Shija Hospitals, emphasized the importance of ADR reporting and highlighted the hospital's non-punitive system, which encourages staff to report issues without fear, ensuring patient safety.
Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam, Director of Medical Services, Shija Hospitals, pointed out that medical errors contribute to 25%' to 30% of patient deaths.
Dr Neerajkumar Sharma Manohar,-Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at SAHS, further explained the importance of ADR reporting for improving patient safety.
The event also included a presentation competition for junior residents.
About 30 participants took part in the competition.
The competition was judged by Prof (Dr) Subhalakshmi Akham, Head of the Department of Pharmacology at SAHS, and Dr Kennedy Taiyenjam, Consultant Anesthesiologist and Critical Care.
The event culminated with a vote of thanks proposed by Surjikumari Hidam, Assistant General Manager of Quality, Shija Hospitals.
