Imphal, October 18 2012:
The Assam Rifles has today strongly rebutted the charges made by the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) as published in some newspapers wherein the armed group had alleged that a surrendered cadre was being used for anti-social activities.
Reacting to the charges, a PRO IGAR (S) release reminded that PLA's SS L/Cpl Maibam Joychandra alias Ronelson s/o M Gopal was apprehended by troops of 27 AR on october 16 from Hiyanglam near Kakching in Thoubal district.
Stating that the individual was involved actively in the recent activities in conjunction with other activists from PLA, the release said intelligence report indicated that Joychandra was operating in the area with an aim to plant IEDs on the roads and cause damage.
Joychandra was handed over to Kakching police station immediately after his arrest wherein he continued to hide the fact of his earlier surrender in 2010 to cover his tracks and the fact that he had gone back to his old ways and joined the outfit against and wanted to continue the facility being provided to the surrenderees by the Government, the PRO release added.
