Imphal, September 18 2013:
The Joint Students' Coordinating Committee of six student unions has drafted code of conduct for candidates in students' union election in school, college and university.
Speaking to media persons today at the office of SUK at Keishampat, Convenor of the Joint Students' Coordinating Committee of AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS, Thangjam Premananda appealed to all concerned to strictly adhere to the 14-point code of conduct laid down by the committee.
He further urged all concerned to enforce the code of conduct from September 24 while adding that any candidate who withstands the code of conduct would be presumed as standing against the people and would be dealt seriously.
Among others, the code of conduct prohibits distribution of card, poster, routine etc or anything that identifies a candidate and canvassing of votes at voters' residence.
It also prohibits organising feast, tea-party and distribution of edible items to voters besides restricting candidates from doling out gifts or money to any voter.
It also urged all to desist from organising study tour, picnic, cinema show or charity show before the end of the election process.
The code of conduct also disallows the use of liquor or narcotic drugs within or outside the campus while going for election campaign.
Further, the code forbids others (non-students) to campaign for candidates within the campus.
