Imphal, May 18 2016:
Students of Maharaja Bodhachandra College have threatened to boycott semester examination and lock the college campus if the Government fails to take up a visible step to solve the problem of frequent flooding of the college campus within three days.
Speaking to reporters, college students' union general secretary Dhanachandra Khaidem said that even a slight rainfall leads to flooding at the college campus since the past many years.
Although the matter has been put up before the Government many times, no action has been taken up till date, he said.
Dhanachandra further said that former Education Minister M Okendro had once promised the students to revamp the college campus with funds from Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) .
However, the promise has not materialised till date, he said.
Dhanachandra further said that the student's union had also apprised incumbent Education Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar about the problem when he visited the college around ten days back.
He further said that Yaiskul AC MLA Elangbam Chand had also visited the college on many occasions.
However, he is silent on the issue as construction of drains may affect some residential buildings and he does not want to lose votes due to it, the student leader alleged.
As such, the students would be compelled to lock the campus and boycott semester examinations if the Government fails to take up steps to solve the problem within three days, he said.
Apart from the college campus, flood waters have entered examination halls and the Principal's room of the college.
