About a dozen villages located along the Indo-Myanmar border in Churachandpur district have been sensitized on what COVID-19 is, how it is spread, and what are the best preventive measures by a team of high ranking officials that visited the area on Thursday.
The officials also assured the villagers that no one will starve due to the Nationwide lockdown.
Addressing the villages chiefs and village authority members at Behiang Police Station, Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner Pawan Yadav said the State Government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that every villager received their share of food supplies.
He reportedly made the assurance after villagers said they are facing immense hardship and running short on food stocks due to the closure of all cross-border movement as the villages located on both side of the border are interdependent.
The Deputy Commissioner also told the villagers to wait for the Government order after 20 April on resuming the collection of firewood in the jungle.
With just about 90 of the 160 households at Behiang village reaching the NFSA card, Yadav is said to have told them to directly contact him if any deserving household is missed-out.
Principal Secretary P Vaiphei also cautioned the villagers from venturing into the Myanmar side saying they could unknowingly be a carrier of COVID-19.The virus which has now caused havoc to many countries should not be taken very lightly.
Unintentionally or unknowingly they could very well be the one who brings the virus into the state, he said and told them that if someone happens to carry the virus it will overwhelm the entire State in no time as the cases could multiply at an unprecedented rate.
The official team have also reportedly identified spaces for conducting Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) at the border village of Behiang and also at Singngat
sub-divisional headquarters.
