Tamenglong, September 17 2024:
The Rongmei Naga People's Organisation (RNPO) has declared the Rongmei People's Consultative Meeting convened on September 10 at Longmai by the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) as "null and void ab initio" .
Citing the reasoning behind this declaration, the RNPO press release issued by general secretary Thuingamlung Phaomei stated that "a handful of Rongmei CSOs and village representatives cannot decide the future of the Rongmei community whose population is above 1 lakh even in Manipur scattered in different districts of the State with about 300 villages" .
The release went on to add that the consultative meeting termed the incumbent PNPO executive as "illegitimate" and its election as "unconstitutional" due to non-participation of the then president of RNCM.
In response to this, RNPO pointed out that 7 Luangrians/Zones (out of total 9 Luangrians/Zones under RNCM) and its executive members participated and exercised their franchise on November 28, 2023 at Langol Tarung Community Hall, Imphal.
Additionally, the Rongmei Naga Council, Assam (RNCA) and Rongmei Council Nagaland (RCN) came and exercised their franchise in a democratically conducted election of the RNPO team for the term 2023-2027, claimed the RNPO statement.
Further, the RNCA and RNC have officially issued statements endorsing the incumbent RNPO team led by Sangamlung Kamel as president as the legitimate and mandated apex body of the Rongmei People of Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and elsewhere, asserted RNPO.
Hence, RNPO has cautioned the Rongmei public, intellectuals and leaders to identify those Rongmei CSOs who allegedly set on deceiving the people with their reportedly false claim.
